History of caretaker prime ministers of Pakistan

The tradition of appointing caretaker Prime Ministers in Pakistan started in 1988 when the Eighth Amendment was introduced to the Constitution of Pakistan. According to this amendment, the President of Pakistan, in consultation with the Prime Minister, would appoint a caretaker Prime Minister to oversee the affairs of the country during the period leading up to general elections.
Here is a list of the caretaker Prime Ministers of Pakistan:
1. Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi: He served as the first caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan from August 6, 1988, to November 1, 1988, after the ouster of General Zia ul Haq and the end of military rule.
2. Moeen Qureshi: He served as caretaker Prime Minister from July 18, 1993, to October 19, 1993, during the period between the dismissal of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government and the subsequent general elections.
3. Meraj Khalid: He served as the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan from October 19, 1996, to February 17, 1997, following the resignation of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's government and the coming general elections.
4. Malik Meraj Khalid: He served as the caretaker Prime Minister from June 18, 1993, to July 18, 1993, after the dismissal of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government and before Moeen Qureshi took office.
5. Balakh Sher Mazari: He served as caretaker Prime Minister from November 5, 1996, to February 17, 1997, after the dismissal of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's government and before Meraj Khalid assumed office.
6. Muhammad Mian Soomro: He served as caretaker Prime Minister from November 16, 2007, to March 25, 2008, after the completion of the tenure of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz's government and before the general elections.
7. Mir Hazar Khan Khoso: He served as caretaker Prime Minister from March 25, 2013, to June 5, 2013, during the period between the dissolution of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf's government and the subsequent general elections.
8. Nasir-ul-Mulk: He served as the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan from May 1, 2018, to August 18, 2018, following the completion of the tenure of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's government and before the general elections.
